Shoulder season: May, June, November
The middle ground almost nobody considers. Fewer people, lower prices, still very good weather. May and June have long warm days; November is usually pleasant before the December rush.
Rainy season: July to October
Hotter and more humid, with more rain — usually short afternoon bursts rather than all-day rain. It's Caribbean hurricane season, so watch the forecast if you travel in September or October. In exchange: much lower prices and emptier beaches.
